Improvements

Enhanced AI Search Tool

With the newest version of the AI search tool, you can not only search for documentation, but also get questions answered by what is essentially an AI chat bot tuned to the beat of Green Dot's API documentation.

Simply click on the "Ask AI" button next to the search bar on the top right of the portal, and it will open another panel on the right of your screen. The new AI assistant will remember your past queries in the same session, and generally be a much better experience at helping find API documentation and answering basic queries.

Money Movement, Transfers, and Transactions Related API Guides & Information Architecture

What previously was split into only two categories for Money Movement Transactions and Instant Transactions has been split into several more categories to more accurately capture our feature sets for these APIs and how our partners interact with them.

Now you will find the following new categorizations with relevant API guides inside:

  • Non Real-Time Transactions
    • This contains documentation for API categories such as certain transfers, ACH, MRDC, and BillPay related functions that do not occur in "real-time"
  • Instant Transactions
    • This contains documentation for API categories such as our Instant Transfer service, Disbursements, Adjustments, and Paper Checks, that are near Real-Time instances of transfer of funds
  • Private Network Transactions (PNT)
    • Private Network Transactions (PNT) are a way for a partner to route a customer transaction to Green Dot in a way that bypasses the need to transmit this transaction over the typical Mastercard or Visa network rails.
  • Peer-To-Peer (P2P) Transfers
    • The Closed Loop Peer‑to‑Peer (P2P) APIs enable partners to create a secure, token‑based directory that keeps money movement within a defined ecosystem while delivering a smooth, consumer‑friendly experience.
  • eCash
    • The eCash API enables customers to create and use barcodes to add cash to their accounts at participating eCash locations
  • External Card Management
    • The External Card Management APIs allows money transfers between external accounts and Green Dot accounts.

The new categories provided allow for a better insight into our features and APIs surrounding these money movement related functions for BaaS.

Further, each of the API guides in these new categories has been rewritten, restructured, and improved for clarity and flow.

API Reference Improvements

Our BaaS API Reference has been vastly updated to improve descriptions of most APIs, include more request and response examples, as well as including much more robust and accurate parameter descriptions to make understanding our documentation easier.

You will find that as you read the new API Guides going forward that, when applicable, the corresponding API in the Guide will be cross-linked to the same API in our API Reference that contains all of the best technical details for that API endpoint.

Please utilize the links to those API Endpoints in our API Guides to access the full technical spec of that API.

When sufficient information is not available in our API Reference, supplemental information is provided in the API Guide itself.
